PHILIP L. BATEMAN

Mr. Bateman was born and raised in Decatur. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1976 and his Juris Doctor cum laude from Northwestern University in 1980. He was a patent attorney for Amoco Corporation (now BP) in Chicago and a partner in the Decatur law firm Samuels, Miller, Schroeder, Jackson & Sly before opening his own firm in 1992. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

 

Mr. Bateman has served as the chairman of the Intellectual Property Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. He has published numerous articles on intellectual property law, and is a frequent speaker at seminars throughout Central Illinois.

 

It has been Mr. Bateman’s privilege to perform legal services for a wide variety of clients ranging from individuals and small businesses to large corporations and universities. He has drafted hundreds of U.S. patent applications and has helped secure patent protection for many products that have become commercial successes, including: the SENSOR PAD touch enhancing device, the SOLID SCENTS fragrant material, the SECURE IDLE motor vehicle safety device, the PERRY suspenders, the DRIP-IT funnel, the EASY LIFTER wheelbarrow, the PRO POCKET pliers holder, the AQUA GOLF swimming pool game, the ACCUFIRE softball pitching machine, the GILL carbon weave vaulting pole, the LAI BIO-GRIND corn refining process, the HIND SIGHT PATHFINDER archery bow sight, and the RIFLE ROD long gun storage device.
